The NFL will have Twitter live stream 10 games during the 2016 season.
10 of those games will come right out of the Thursday schedule, which will be live on NBC and CBS. The stream on Twitter will be available to anyone around the world, including those using phones, tablets, computers and smart TVs.
Twitter also wants to have an agreement with the players and teams on using Periscope for pre-game streams to what’s happening behind the scenes.
“This is about transforming the fan experience with football. People watch NFL games with Twitter today,” said Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter according to Stuff. “Now they’ll be able to watch right on Twitter Thursday nights.”
Twitter beat out Facebook, Amazon, Verizon Wireless and Yahoo, all were in the mix for this decision. It’s no surprise with the growth of Twitter exploding compared to where it was 10 years ago. People often use Twitter to connect to Facebook more as 140 characters is easy for all users. The NFL continues to grow internationally, making the future of the industry possibly bigger than any other professional sport.
