Last week, Brooklyn born Derrick Turner, a New York City bartender and brand advocate for 1800 Tequila, stopped by Bleu’s office for a special happy hour. Derrick gave the staff a lesson on how to create two signature cocktails including the Reposado and Anejo flavor tequilas.
The Reposado tequila is crafted using 8-12 year old 100% Weber Blue Agave and is matured in American and French Oak barrels for no less than six months. This rich liquid has notes of buttery caramel, mild spices and a touch of smokiness, which is imparted by the finishing process. While the Anejo tequila uses 100% Weber Blue Agave, picked at their peak — anywhere from 8-12 years old — Añejo is aged in French Oak barrels for a minimum of 14 months. It’s described as spicy and well rounded with flavors of toasted oak, vanilla and butterscotch.
