“1989” Album Review

Taylor Swift returns with her 6th Studio Album which is described to be her first official pop release entitled “1989” through Big Machine Records. The album’s title is the year Swift was born. “Shake It Off” was released as the lead single from 1989 on August 18, 2014. It debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming Swift’s second number one single in the country and the 22nd track to debut in the peak position on that chart in Billboard history. Undoubtedly, she has the charisma and chops to be convincing on both bubblegum and ballads but 1989 is something else entirely: a cold, somewhat distant celebration of all the transient transparencies of modern pop, undercut by its own desperate desire to be nothing but a sparkling soundtrack to an aspirational lifestyle.
