Solidarity (noun): unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a common interest
It is far too easy, when confronted with tragedy, to bear a heart filled with worry about what the next day will bring for you, if your name too will soon be a hashtag. Tragedy reminds humans of our inclination to make mistakes and be the bearers of bad news, which is why I ask that you take time out today to unapologetically and consciously love your neighbor and yourself. Remind yourself that there is good in the world, but don’t put on those rose-colored glasses. There’s still a lot of work to do, but don’t let the fight against evil ruin your knowledge that there is still happiness and joy to be had.
This call to love is not just for today or tomorrow, it is for every day. Joy is contagious. Smile at children. Hug your friends. Spread a little joy in your life. Be there for someone who needs you today. It’s the little things that truly matter the most in this world and we must remember this.
