Its beginning was just a vision of fabrics, patterns, and designs and here 3 years later this once vision is now a collection, a brand, a business…a lifestyle.
This past Thursday John Jay College of Criminal Justice held their Fashion Show entitled Fallen Angel where they welcomed a new wave in fashion to the scene. FLY MOD, which means FLY Mind Of Dreams, is THE new fashion Label by Brooklyn native, Oran Alexander. His designs made a huge splash with the crowd delivering novelty pieces that were bold and clever. Hear more from the designer on his journey and first collection.
Describe the journey from your clothing line being a dream to now releasing your first collection?
The journey was a challenge because I wanted to release something that people would love and I went back and forth trying to find the right designs while still staying true to my aesthetic.
What did you want to tell in your first collection?
I call this first collection “The Love Box” because it’s my baby, my first born and I want as many people to see what I see in my clothing which is a collection of original pieces that exudes confidence, individuality, realness, and overall style.
From where do you pull inspiration?
I get my inspiration from life, living and being apart of the world. There is so much to be inspired by if you just stop and look at what’s around you.
What could we expect from the second collection?
For the second collection, I want to bend the bar or maybe even break it by mixing fabric, colors, patterns, designs and whatever else I think of. There is only one way to go and that’s up, and I can only get there by being the innovator that I am. This is just the beginning of what will become a staple in fashion.
