The cause of death for A$AP Yams shocked many fans in the hip hop community and his cause of death went unknown for a while until now.
NYT pop critic Jon Caramanica revealed via Twitter yesterday his cause of death was due to acute mixed drug intoxication of opiates and benzodiazepine

However, according to HotNewHipHop, A$AP Rocky released a statement denying rumors that Yams cause of death wasn’t drug overdose.
People were saying that Yams overdosed on drugs –he didn’t overdose on any drugs,” he explained. “I feel like people feel that way because that’s all he’s in pictures doing. When you see A$AP Yams you see Hennessy or purple drink, you see some type of controlled substance or illegal narcotic.
On Jan 18th, Steven Rodriguez (A$AP Yams) was found unresponsive in his NYC apartment and was brought to Woodhill Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead, he was 26. Yams helped start the careers of A$AP Rocky, whose 2013 album “Long.Live.ASAP” debuted at No.1 on the Billboard album charts, as well as A$AP Ferg, whose set to release his upcoming sophomore album in the summer as well as crediting Yams as an “angel” and changed his mind about rapping being “corny”.
