Alton Mason could be your average 19 year old who grooves to Michael Jackson and loves to dance–except he’s so much more than that. After being scouted off of Instagram, Mason landed his first modeling gig for Yeezy Season 3. Now with a year of modeling experience under his belt, he has become the model to watch.
The list of brands Mason has worked with grows rapidly, from VFiles and Opening Ceremony to Kenzo. His latest accomplishment was his role in Gucci‘s Pre-Fall 2017 campaign that featured all black models. “It was a full two weeks of dancing, laughing, eating and praying with artists who were just like me! The entire team treated us like family — royalty,” said Mason.
And yet with the growing recognition, Mason knows not to stay complacent. The half Jamaican and half Ghanaian model is now striving for a chance with Chanel, Balenciaga, Raf Simons, and Saint Laurent.
When he’s not modeling, he’s releasing his creativity in different forms like acting, singing, and most importantly, dancing. What started as a hobby became a professional career three years ago before modeling took a bigger part in his life. You can catch some of his moves in Blood Orange’s “Better Than Me” music video.
So who is Alton Mason? “I’m still finding myself,” he said. “Part of me doesn’t really know who Alton Mason is, but another part of me wakes up and looks in the mirror and sees this black boy with dreams, with growth, with gratitude, faith.”
