The Brooklyn Nets with an up and down season beat the Orlando Magic 101-88 to clinch the 8th seed in the East after the Memphis Grizzles knocked off the Indiana Pacers and await the Atlanta Hawks in the first round according to CBS Sports.
The Nets came into that night as the 9th seed while the Pacers were the 8th seed. At the end of both games both teams finished tied at 38-44, but gave the Nets the 8th seed after winning the season series over the Pacers. Now they have a tough task in the first round as they take on the top seeded Atlanta Hawks on Sunday. Nets Shooting Guard Joe Johnson knows that once your in the playoffs anything can happen.
‘If you get in, it’s a whole new season,” Johnson said before the Grizzlies’ 95-83 victory. ”Everybody is 0-0 and then you wipe your hands clean and then you give it another go.”
Overall the Hawks sweep the Nets four games to none in the season series. They have had injuries on the team such as Shooting Guard Thabo Sefolosha, who is out for the season with a broken tibia after being arrested in a nightclub from New York. Although the hawks roster is still dangerous with the style of play they show similar to the Spurs. Head Coach Lionel Hollins knows how good the team is and wants his team to be prepared.
”They’re the second-best team in the NBA, record-wise. They’ve shot the ball extremely well all year. When they lose they don’t shoot the ball well,” Nets coach Lionel Hollins said. ”We’ve got to figure out how to make them shoot the ball a little bit less then what they normally do and control the glass and score.”
The game will be played on TNT at 5:30 p.m.
