Carmelo Anthony Patiently Waits For A Meeting With Phil Jackson About Long Term Plans
The New York Knicks continue to fall in the Eastern Conference standings after starting out solid. Carmelo Anthony continues to lose patience with where the team is heading to. Anthony patiently waits for a one-on-one meeting with Phil Jackson about long term plans for the franchise.
Anthony hasn’t talked with Jackson since the trade deadline passed. Jackson didn’t improve on the team’s roster, which includes trying to get the backcourt better defensively. The Knicks haven’t had a point guard in many years that can run the team. Anthony hopes he can talk to Jackson soon or later in the season on addressing these issues.
We’ve been back a week or so [from the break],’’ Anthony said at Wednesday’s morning shootaround at Bankers Life FieldHouse according to the New York Post. “He hasn’t sat down with the team or addressed anything. I’ll have my opportunity to talk to him. That’s not the way to go at this point. It’s about winning games at this point. I’ll have my opportunity to talk to Phil about that.
He knows that Jackson won’t be coaching on the sideline anytime soon. At 70 years old, he’s having too many health issues to even communicate with the team on a daily basis. He’s working in New York City, while his wife Jeanie Buss is back at Los Angeles running the Lakers. There were speculation of him leaving the Knicks to go back to LA, but those rumors are shut down at the moment.
The Knicks have been a dysfunctional franchise for more than 15 years. The days of playing tough defense on the court with stability in the front office is over. If Jackson can’t fix this franchise any time soon, it’s best for him to trade Melo to a contender and focus on the future around Kristaps Porzingis. But will Anthony agree with that if he really, really wants to win in NY?
