As Cam Newton raced from one sideline to the other in the closing moments of the 38-0 blowout against the Atlanta Falcons, fans cheered on for possibly his first MVP of his career.
I believe right now it’s our moment as Panthers,” Newton said with a smile as he praised the team’s fan base following his victory run according to the Associated Press. ”We try to seize it as much as possible.
Newton is clearly the frontrunner for the MVP with an undefeated team. He completed 15 of 21 passes for 265 yards with three touchdowns against the Falcons. Overall he is completing 59 percent of his passes, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Although the defense did most of the carry early in the season, offensively they continue to make strides.
In the first three possessions of the game, they scored off a 1-yard touchdown from Jonathan Stewart and two touchdowns from Ted Ginn Jr. Newton continues to find chemistry with inconsistent receivers. Ginn Jr. has had more drops this season than other receivers. It was a confidence builder for him catching touchdowns thanks to this quarterback.
On the Falcons side, it wasn’t a great game at all. Matt Ryan threw only for 224 yards. He continues to regress over the past weeks including the team as a whole that started 5-0 and now are 6-7.
It was about as badly as we can play,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said. ”That’s frustrating.
Even the head coach Dan Quinn didn’t like the level of play they shown on the field. Panthers dominated them offensively and defensively. It was unacceptable for them heading forward as they continue to fight for a wild card spot.
We look for smart, tough and finish,” Quinn said. ”That’s what I expect from our club. When that doesn’t happen, yes, I have a lot of disappointment.
Panthers face the New York Giants next and hope to stay perfect.
