Cincinnati Bengals Fail To Respect The Game and Loss Against The Pittsburgh Steelers
The Cincinnati Bengals had the game right in their hands with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter. But it looked like they are allergic to winning a playoff game since 1991.
They loss their poise and composure after a fumble recovery by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers converted a game winning field goal, beating the Bengals 18-16. Looking at the game, the Bengals had the key interception on backup quarterback Landry Jones. But they didn’t respect the game when they ran into the locker room as if the game is over. That play made them overconfident, which resulted in their downfall. They also costed two penalties on the last drive of the game from an unsportsmanlike conduct to touching a coach.
“I was just telling the coaches out there [the Steelers players] were cussing out Adam. That’s why Adam pushed [Porter],” Vontaze Burfict said according to ESPN. “He shouldn’t be on the field cussing us out. The ref heard it all, but the ref threw the flag on Adam.”
Either way it was the right decision to flag both Burfict and Adam Jones. Trash talking is in every sport regardless of the circumstances. They needed to be calm and poise instead of doing things for themselves. Being unselfish in the wrong moment can cost a win, which the Bengals did. It also follows on the leaders of the team and Bengals Pro Bowl offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth failed.
“I’m a leader, so it falls on all of us,” said Whitworth according to ESPN If any of us have let it slip, if any of us have let it not be important, then it’s all of our mistake. Discipline, to me, is something that’s taught throughout the year. It’s not a one-time-moment thing. It’s an everyday thing. It’s just like raising my kids. Discipline is something I have to be consistent every single day with. I have to be consistent with things that are important, and as a leader of this football team, it’s the same thing. It falls on all of us.”
Steelers now go on to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 4:40.
