The whole world saw a very bizarre decision made by New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose on not showing up against the New Orleans Pelicans Monday night. Now, it may cost him his max contract and playing as a Knick for the rest of his career, as Rose said during the season.
“It had nothing to do with the team or basketball,” Rose said of his impromptu departure according to the New York Daily News. “But that’s the first time I ever felt like that emotionally and I had to be with my family.”
Let’s face it, everybody in some degree have family situations that can occur at any given moment. No blue-collar worker on a daily basis would not leave a message to their boss. Everyday people text for messages or notices if someone is not coming to work. For Rose, he’s no different.
Even as a star player or serviceable all-star, leave a notice before making a rash decision based on emotions. Rose knows that this Knicks team ain’t going nowhere. The team is under .500, lack of intensity on defense, and the pieces don’t fit. He still however needs to be a team player for that max contract, which was probably loss after this incident.
Everything is a domino affect taking into place for Rose. There were reports of him retiring from the game, but that’s probably an excuse for wanting to get out of this bad situation. Either way, will see what Rose does by the end of the season, and if he’s still with the team.
