The global pizza chain Domino announced today that it is partnering with Starship Technologies, a startup with robots, to begin delivering pizza in Germany.
In about two months the company expects sidewalk robots to deliver pizza around the country. These six-wheeled robots from Starship are two feet tall, weight pounds and travel at four miles per hour, which is walking speed.
“Robotic delivery units will complement our existing delivery methods, including cars, scooters and e-bikes,” said Don Meij, Domino’s Group CEO in a statement according to Recode. “With our growth plans over the next five to 10 years, we simply won’t have enough delivery drivers if we do not look to add to our fleet through initiatives such as this.”
The future is definitely here and if this test goes well, other food restaurants may use the robots for their own deliveries. Technology continues to grow at an incredible pace and nothing will stop that from going beyond its limitations.
