In 1981, Efva Attling started a band called ‘The X Models’. Based on the premise that she herself had been a model in Milan, New York, and Paris throughout her teenage years. The band had a hit ballad in the 80´s, “Two of us”, which Efva composed. Then while writing, singing and releasing Grammy nominated records, Efva also began to design.
In the year of 1996, Efva began working with sterling silver and 18 carrot gold. Her passion for rock and roll can be cited in the very titles of her collections: “Go Your Own Way” is inspired by the Fleetwood Mac jam, while “Miss Butterfly” and “Catch a Falling Star” are derived from songs. Her background as a lyricist gave her a love of words and phrases that she incorporates into her pieces. The 2014 fall collection features Latin phrases such as “amor fati”–love of our destiny, “momento viviere”–remember to live, “sic itur ad astra”–reach for the stars, “amor vincit omnia”–love conquers all. The collection is called “Beauty with a thought”.
Elegant and edgy, much of her jewelery is also unisex and socially conscious. Thirty percent of proceeds made from the “Rainbow Freedom” collection go towards supporting the empowerment, education, and advocacy of LGBTQ youth through The Hetrick-Martin Institute, an organization that believes “all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential.”
