It has now become pretty standard in Hollywood to remake a children’s book, comic or wise-tail. So there may be some hesitation to give PAN a shot to do what it ultimately does- thrill the audience along a fantastic twist of reality and adventure.
The audience is swept into the storyline almost immediately with the help of 3-d glasses. You will find yourself bedside with Peter, played by Levi Miller, 13, in a bleak London orphanage. Soon Peter is off to mysterious Neverland.
“With the lights out, it’s less dangerous,” the crowd of indentured young boys sings along with great enthusiasm to the grand entrance of the baddest pirates of them all Blackbeard. “Here we are now, entertain us. I feel stupid and contagious.”
Blackbeard, the villain of the movie, is played by none other that Hugh Jackman of the X-Men franchise. Jackman completely transforms himself for this role and if you did not know who it was behind the wigs and mangled face you’d be as terrified as his subordinates were in the movie.
The moral of the story is the same as the one told decades ago. This time the journey takes many unexpected and nail-biting twists and turns. The PG rating maybe a little misleading, there’s definitely more violence than I remember in the version my mother read to me at night. Lol! This is great film to see and sure it will have the same box office success as previous Jackman films.
The film hits theaters October 9th, 2015. directed by Joe Wright.
