Taking a listen to “Bourbon,” the first of four tracks currently available when you pre-order rising star Gallant’s new album Ology (due April 6th), you’d think this 24-year-old’s been here before. Stacked with strong falsettos in the lane of Sam Smith and a catchy Prince-esque groove, Gallant’s got the goods and we’re only one track deep.
Born in Washington, D.C., but raised in Columbia, MD, Christopher Gallant self-released his debut EP Zebra in 2014 and then churned out last year’s runaway hit “Weight in Gold.” That single took on a life of its own gaining Gallant a featured spot on Apple’s international radio station Beats 1’s first airdate last summer courtesy of New Zealand DJ Zane Lowe. Now, two years into his steady success and signing with indie record label Mind of A Genius and hot on the heels of a collaboration with alt-R&B singer/songwriter Jhene Aiko (check out “Skipping Stones”), Gallant’s star is rising quickly and there’s great anticipation for this new album the industry has been buzzing about.
Expect April 6th to bring about a new and exciting chapter in the book of Gallant. With tracks like the sleepy synthetic banger “Open Up” and his aforementioned duet with Aiko, Gallant’s among the new breed of R&B musicians you’ll need to watch and listen out for. Don’t believe us? Press play and pre-order that Ology to see what we mean.
