If anyone thought the Home Run Derby would be boring this year, think again. Miami Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton put on a show winning the Derby by a landslide, pretty much destroy any player he faced.
”For sure being on the West Coast and taking the flight out here just for this, you know. I figure it’s a waste if I don’t bring this bad boy home,” Stanton said, hoisting the trophy according to Yahoo Sports. ”I had a great time. I had a blast.”
Stanton’s longest homer during the Derby was 497 feet. Eight of them were also the deepest ones overall, making it insane to see that much power from a hitter in Petco Park, one of the largest parks in the MLB. The Marlins product didn’t make the all-star this year battling .233 with 20 homers and 50 RBIs. He did however beat out the competition.
In his first round he already had 24 homeruns, which was an outstanding number for player who struggled right before all-star break. The Marlins are in good position to be in the playoffs this season. Stanton can definitely elevate his game for the team’s chance in competing for a playoff spot. He probably wishes that these homers were during the season. Either way, he will take the trophy as part of his individual accomplishments.
