Many would agree that “REAL” Hip Hop music has gone and left the building a long time ago. Hip Hop started off as something that was meant to be a form of art and expression, where lyricists spoke about their hard times with word play, and dope rhymes. Now, it seems that Hip Hop music is simplified, and downplayed so more people won’t have the time to listen and just dance to it. The popular topics most rappers speak about is drugs, degrading women, and ending someone’s life. Half of the time you can barely understand the words that are coming out of these artists mouth. Can this be the reason why everyone wants to walk around with that “I am a savage” mentality, and carry no emotion when it comes to the things they do, and how they treat people? A lot of these present rappers believe being emotional-less is the way to go, because supposedly if you show any sight of feelings you’re a punk. Let’s get back to the days where rappers told stories and in order to understand where they are coming from you have to listen.
Apart of this movement of bringing Hip Hop back to its original roots and exposing the truth about Hip Hop and its culture is a radio show called HHQ War Zone. Their goal is to stop the influence of guns, drugs, and disrespect through the Hip Hop community, and bring back the times where music was a form a therapy, not just being made for sales and stupidity. The industry must of forgot about the youth because remember that there are young children who listen to Hip Hop music and are influenced to do violent things, because that is what their favorite rapper speaks about. Well I say finally, this was long overdue until someone realized how Hip Hop has changed over the years, and the more we speak on it, the more a change can result. HHQ War Zone is online every Monday from 7 to 8 pm, and listeners are even encouraged to call, so please join in on the movement.
