Iconix Brand Group: Buys Old School Brand Pony

Iconix Brand Group is planning on bringing the athletic brand Pony back to life. Iconix Brand Group is a group that include names such as Roca Wear, Billionaire Boys Club and many more. Iconix with the partnership of AL&S, Anthony L&S Athletics, have recently bought this brand for $37 million dollars. Pony was once known as a popular brand worn by professional athletes in major sports such as the World Cup, NBA, NFL, MLB and even boxing. Pony was a Hong Kong based brand.

Iconix wanted the rights for North America and they bought it cash! Neil Cole chairman and chief executive officer of Iconix states “With the addition of Pony, we believe we can leverage our existing sports platform including our Danskin, Starter and Umbro brands, which represent over two million of global retail sales and create significant value of the brand”. Last fall, DKNY partnered with Pony to make a white leather sneaker and it is selling for $225 this month in select DKNY stores. Looks like the partnership has big plans for this brand and lots of money. We might start seeing more of Pony again.
