The Carolina Panthers are rolling into the Super Bowl with Cam Newton leading the way. Newton is favorite to be the MVP of the league. Everything seems to be falling in for the Panthers winning the Super Bowl, but is he the Lebron James of the NFL? There are two reasons to believe he is like one of the greatest players in NBA history, but it’s not time to crown Newton in the same discussion with James.
Age Comparison At 26 – Lebron James Is Better
Newton at age 26 is in the prime of his career. He completely changed his game compare to what he was a few years ago. Although he loss his primary receiver due to an ACL injury, Newton made other players around him better. They are on a another level with his playmaking abilities and the defense causing turnovers. He is leading the best team in the NFL to new heights. Newton continues to grow and grow as his appearance impacts other opponents.
James at age 26 was already the most dominated player in the league. He already won multiple MVP awards, an all star for many years and a scoring champion. He done so much and joined the Miami Heat at the time. James had Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the prime of their careers. No one can stop James offensively when he runs on the fast break. Defensively he can take a player out of his game with his will. There is no question that James was already making an impact on the game long before Newton. Newton is starting to be recognized for his play, but James even before 26 took his team with a bunch of nobodies to the Finals.
Physical Traits- Cam Newton Is Better
At 6’5 245 lbs, Newton has the physical tools to be one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the NFL. He can throw it from anywhere on the field whether it’s in the pocket or on the run. His arm strength is one of the best in the league and is incredibly strong at that size. Big 300 pound linemens tackle him down when he runs and still comes back up. He can take the punishment of a long game. Analyst have him labeled as a “Physical Freak” coming out of college and he is living up to that. His workouts are core strength exercises, which helps him from preventing any serious injuries.
At 6’8 nearly 260 lbs, James is still a “Physical Freak” even as he gets older. He can run fast, jump high and can go through centers to get to the basketball. He can make point guard passes, displaying his basketball IQ on the court against any opponent. He can also defend big centers as well. James does a lot of fitness, riding a bike as part of his workout routine. Although James is starting to decline due to the amount of minutes played on the court, you can put him up there with other incredible athletes. Newton is now above James since he is peaking at the right time compare to James slight decline physically.
