Jaden Smith, who is currently fashion’s “It Boy” is taking inspiration from his latest acting role in the series “The Get Down” which debuts on Netflix on August 12th. In the show, which is set in the 70s, Jaden plays Marcus ‘Dizzee’ Kipling, and has admitted he customized his characters wardrobe in the style of American artist Jean-Michael Basquiat.
In an interview with Metro newspaper, Jaden says, “I wouldn’t normally write on my clothes, but I decided to write lines of my poetry on them as Dizzee, and I think I’ll keep doing it on my own.” In regards to his own clothing line MSFTSrep, Jaden would want to incorporate that style into his own line. “I could bring out a clothing line with them.”
Over the past couple of months, Jaden has been the target of criticism for his fashion choices, like wearing skirts, and wearing nail polish. However, none of that bothers him at all. “You just have to believe in yourself, you know. The world is going to keep bashing me for whatever I do, and I’m going to keep not caring. I’m going to keep doing the same things – I’m going to keep doing more things.”
