Kanye West Becomes First Artist In History For “The Life of Pablo” To Debut Number One Through Streaming
Since his debut in 2004, Kanye West has become an entity that has revolutionized not just music on a multitude of levels, but pop culture in its entirety. Spanning from production, fashion, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, to his own individual accolades consisting of multi-platinum plaques and timeless projects for the millions of fans to digest and enjoy. Those millions assisted in West’s latest effort ‘The Life of Pablo’ to become the first ever album in history to debut atop the Billboard charts strictly powered by streams.
Nielson tracking service reported that the album sold 94,000 last week which 70% of which was through streaming itself, leaving the other 24,000 toward physical record sales. Within the two months of its release, ‘Pablo’ was streamed through numerous platforms such as Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music over 99 million times which was 30 times more than Tidal’s global subscriber base, giving West his seventh number one project.
