Kevin Ware, a Junior College Basketball player from Louisville Cardinals suffered a gruesome right leg injury back in the NCAA Midwest regional final. The audience felt Kevin Ware’s pain as he was assisted off the court. The remaining of the Louisville basketball team was in complete shock. After witnessing their team mate’s injury, nothing was more important than wining. The Cardinals carried Ware’s enthusiasm throughout the NCAA tournament to be labeled, “The 2013 Men’s Basketball NCAA Champions”.
After missing 220 days of basketball Ware return to the floor for an opening exhibition game against Pikeville. The 20 year old receive a surprising standing ovation from the crowd at The Yum Arena. Everyone was exciting to see how Kevin’s ability to play would respond to his severe injury last year. The first opportunity Ware received to score, he took the chance and did just that. Ware first shot was good for three points! The crowd as well as his team mates grew in complete excitement.
Rick Pitino, The Louisville head coach was not sure if Kevin should play this exhibition game. A couple days prior to this game, Ware was finally cleared to practice. Kevin Ware finished the game with 6 points, 4 rebounds in just 10 minutes. Kevin Ware states to Espn, “It was great, I’ve never felt that before”. He also revealed “I’ve been waiting for that moment; once I hit that first shot it took away all the jitters”. Ware is fully mindful of his upcoming season for The Cardinals, with the support of his family and team mates he is in high hopes for a strong run towards another NCAA Championship.
