Khalid, a 19 year old artist from El Paso Texas, has become a popular name since his hit single, Location, released on radio and music streams a few months ago. So much hype arose from this rising star and in result, led to a successful debut of his first album, American Teen, on March 3rd, a day he describes as life changing.
Introducing a modern, soulful and unique sound to his generation, Khalid mixes both rock and blues with a touch of love and heartache. His style is quite different from trending voices we hear today and could be the potential start to a new era of music.
Since American Teen released, the Texan singer’s audience has been growing exponentially. He also got the opportunity to perform ‘Location’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and caught the ears of known artists such as Lil Wayne and Kehlani, who remixed the song soon after the album released. According to Pigeons & Planes, Khalid started making music in the winter of 2015, with ‘Location’ being one of his most developed songs so far.
“Being in the same environment of great artists/producers like Syk Sense & Tunji Ige—with crazy, dope creativity helped the creation of the song move so smooth,” said Khalid. “It’s like I would go in and say something or think of an idea and they would stack on my idea with an even better idea and then eventually that’s how “Location” came about. It was work, but fun work.”
Khalid will be touring major cities across the United States starting Apr 20th, from Philadelphia to Santa Monica, California. View his tour dates here.
