The New York Knicks’ Kristaps Porzingis and Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns won NBA Eastern and Western rookies of the month for January. They both now won rookie of the month three times in a row in.
Porzingis had a very solid month despite some nagging injuries and slow starts in games. He ranked fourth among all rookie players at 15.3 points a game. He was second in rebounding at 7.2. Porzingis had four double-doubles including a great performance, despite the loss against the San Antonio Spurs with 28 points and 11 rebounds. He also scored 13 points in 13 straight games from Jan. 3-26.
Towns averaged a double-double with 16.9 points and 10.9 rebounds. He shot 53 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free throw line. He became the only player this season to reach these totals of 27 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks.
