And so the musically comprised success story of 25-year-old Leon Bridges, whose debut album, Coming Home, released today on Columbia begins. Bridges and his new debut album is the result of a major label bidding war after his discovery in his odd discovery at at bar in Fort Worth.
His sound is one you really don’t hear much about these days. In fact, his sixties sounds are ones that haven’t really been heard since… well the sixties. We’re not talking any ‘Uptown Funks” or any other blues and jazzy sounds mimicked by today’s pop artists. We’re talking your grandma putting on her old records and doing the Watusi in the living room kind of music.
Bridge’s clearly brings an entirely different dynamic to today’s music, which is why signing him to a label was such a big battle. Since singers like Sam Cooke and Otis Redding made their way into stardom back in the 60’s this type of music hadn’t really been adopted by new listeners. With this debut album and new label by his side, Leon Bridges plans to change all of that!
