“I think this is best for everyone. First of all for me, and then for everyone,” Lionel Messi told the Argentine network TyC Sports not along after missing a penalty kick in the shootout according to Yahoo News. “I think there’s a lot of people who want this, who obviously are not satisfied, as we are not satisfied reaching a final and not winning it.”

Usually the winning team (Chile) get more of the talk in a final than the losing one. But in this case, the focus turns to Argentina superstar Lionel Messi, who announced his retirement from international play after losing again in the Copa America final.

This is the fourth time Messi falls short in an international final. Messi has been decorated as the best soccer player in the game. Known to be a great striker with the ability to make tough shots on the soccer field, it wasn’t enough to overcome against Chile.

Both teams went into penalty kicks when Messi missed one wide right. The Argentina star knew in his heart when he was upset on the miss that the team loss. Now soccer fans may wonder if retiring from international play might or might not hurt his legacy.

Only Messi can go out of the limb, moving from heaven and earth in reconsidering his decision. Either way, he leaves the national team with 55 goals in 113 international appearances, leading the club in scoring. Everyone can still see him play in the Spanish league, and yet, it’s still sad to see him walk away without a championship in Copa America or the World Cup.
