Illustrious R&B/soul singer/songwriter and Brooklyn native Maxwell is now notorious for disappearing from the music scene after taking such lengthy breaks between projects.
If you recall, the 42-year-old Grammy winner, who celebrates his birthday on May 23rd, promised his devoted fans he’d deliver the second installment of his Black Summers Night trilogy – the first of which debuted in 2009 – sooner rather than later. However, after a seven-year break from being visible to the masses, he’s officially returned with the long-awaited album blackSUMMERSnight due July 1st on the same night he’s scheduled to headline the 2016 Essence Music Festival.
Today, he stopped by Wendy Williams’ purple couch to chat about the wait and the break between albums, but dodged quite a few of Wendy’s questions about his guarded personal life. (And rightfully so, don’t you think?) Beyond that, the two discuss his twenty years in the business as Wendy officially meets him for the first time.
Needless to say, it’s an interview worth watching if you missed the conversation and of course, if you haven’t heard the lead single “Lake by the Ocean,” you should click on the link below to listen and find out where Maxwell will be stopping on the highly anticipated tour route.
