It has been a long seven-year wait for Maxwell’s highly anticipated follow up to his BLACKsummers’night trilogy. Despite a few false starts, teasing us on his Instagram with cryptic messages, lyrics and photos plus a couple spot dates across the U.S. to do nothing more than whet the appetites of die-hard R&B music fans, the Grammy-winning singer has finally invited us back into his world with a brand new mid-tempo jam “Lake by the Ocean” as the lead single to forthcoming BlackSUMMERS’night album.
Written and produced by Musze (aka Maxwell) and his longtime collaborator Hod David, “Lake by the Ocean” is set in a familiar space of Maxwell’s take on love, heartbreak, relationships, sensuality and the human connection. Seductive, sweet and sure to acquire spins at radio, Maxwell’s undeniable tenor is sounding better than ever on this love story that only he can tell this way. “Lake by the Ocean” is the perfect first taste of what’s to come on the full-length BlackSUMMERS’night and beyond.
The second installment of the trilogy is expected to drop on July 1st via Columbia Records, but Maxwell fans can hear more of the new music plus the singer’s classics during the 25-city tour kicking off June 18th. During the string of shows, Maxwell will also headline the upcoming 2016 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans during Fourth of July weekend. Maxwell is scheduled to announce the summer schedule on Monday, April 11th at Musze.com so get your ticket money ready today.
Maxwell’s new single, album and tour dates conveniently coincide with the 20th anniversary of the artist’s career-launching debut, 1996’s Urban Hang Suite.
