Michael Phelps has done it once again.
With his emotional win, Phelps told the press about how he felt before going into it.
“Getting off the bus and walking into the pool tonight, I almost felt myself starting to cry,” he said. “Last warm-up, last time putting on a suit, last time walking out in front of thousands of people representing my country. It’s insane. This is how I wanted to finish my career.” He told the reporters.
This summer, Phelps has won 5 Gold medals and 1 Silver medal, and also became the face of the Olympics. Literally.
All jokes aside, the Olympian swimmer and 23 time winning Gold medalist has just announced that he will be retiring from the Olympics for good after an emotional win in Rio according to the TODAY show.
“Done, done, done — and this time I mean it,” Phelps said during the TODAY show on Monday. “I wanted to come back and finish my career how I wanted and this was the cherry on top of the cake.”
Congratulations to our record-breaking medalist! Thank you for all that you’ve done for Team U.S.A.
