This generation is full of individuals who are more tolerant of things that Republicans are against- homosexuality, gun control laws, abortion, etc. But even those few young Republicans in attendance at the RNC were not very likely to vote for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Why is this?
An example can be seen in an article published by Time magazine, the millennials present at the RNC were curious to see whether or not they could vote for someone who says such openly brazen and often offensive things onstage. At the end of the week, it was proved in polled statistics that millennials were least likely to vote for Trump. In said article, some interviewed young Republicans said that newer Republicans were not intolerant of LGBT individuals, and even agreed that the GOP needs to back off issues like LGBT rights.
In an interview with VICE, the executive director of Young Americans for Liberty Cliff Maloney said that young conservatives are “libertarian-leading”, and “not only want the government’s hands out of their wallets, they want the government out of their bedrooms as well.”
Bearing all this in mind, what does this spell out for Trump? Perhaps, if he cannot get the under-30 vote, he may not stand much of a chance against Hillary Clinton (who does try to cater more towards the American youth).
