So far, there are a lot of people who don’t want Kanye performing at Glastonbury, technically more than 60,000 don’t want him there said TheHollywoodReporter.
A Change.org petition to get Kanye West dropped from the Glastonbury Music Festival has reached 70,063 supporters in three days. The full statement from the petition is as follows:
Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world. We spend hundreds of pounds to attend Glasto, and by doing so, expect a certain level of entertainment. Kanye has been very outspoken on his views on music…he should listen to his own advice and pass his headline slot to someone deserving! Let’s prevent this musical injustice now!
In an interview with NME, Neil Lonsdale, creator of the petition, originally started it as a joke when he found out Kanye was headlining, he also has never been to Glastonbury until this year, marking this his first time going. When he discovered Kanye was gonna be there he was pretty angry.
I fought the temptation to scream and instead opted to hurl my iPhone across the room, Lonsdale said. “Two years ago we had The Rolling Stones playing the Saturday night, and this year we get Kanye West? It’s an outrage!
Lonsdale was surprised at how popular the petition became, reaching over 50,000 supporters in three days.
I was a little surprised that people have taken it as seriously as they have, he admitted. Don’t get me wrong, if it works, then I’ll be more than happy. I’m not surprised its popular though
Well, for now Kanye is still scheduled to headline the Saturday portion in Glastonbury along with the Foo Fighters headlining on Friday and Lionel Richie being the only confirmed act said The Hollywood Reporter.
The festival will go from June 24th-28th.
