The big amount of money spend on the defense for the Jets was hype coming into the season. Now it’s notice around the league.
The Jets pull an upset against the Indianapolis Colts and won 20-7. Star cornerback Darrelle Revis picked off pass, recovered two fumbles and helped contributed to the five turnovers caused by the defense.
‘It’s Monday night, on a big stage, and we knew what type of game this was going to be,” Revis said according to Fox Sports reported by the Associated Press.
They shut down one of the top five quarterbacks in the game in Andrew Luck on the road. The Jets front seven never gave Luck a chance to be comfortable in the pocket. He went 21-37 for 250 yards, one touchdown and four turnovers (three were intercepted).
”You can’t penalize yourself, you can’t turn the ball over,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. ”We have to protect, give him (Luck) a clean pocket. You can’t drive the length of the field and put the football on the ground.”
On the other side, The Jets offensively were a hit and miss throughout the game. They scored 1o points for 3/4 of the game. In the fourth quarter they had another touchdown and a field goal to add on to the lead. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick finished 22 of 34 for 244 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
The Jets overall lean on to the great defense that has opened eyes around the league. They face the Eagles on Sunday at home. The defense hopes to dominate again against a high-powered, speedy offense.
”All we talk about is trying to dominate as a defense and we take a lot of pride in that,” Pryor said. ”Our main focus is to come in week in and week-out, bring the intensity, try to dominate as a defense, create turnovers, get the ball back to our offense and let them go execute.”
