Last Monday, the New York Civil Liberties Union hosted its 15th Annual “Broadway Stand Ups For Freedom” concert and presented the “Freedom Award” to Mr. Harry Belafonte, who dedicated his life to fighting for civil rights and civil liberties.
Hosted by Susan Blackwell, Broadway’s finest sang original songs that included protests, immigration reform, racism, education equality, resisting the Trump regime, and much more. Songwriting teams and performers joined forces in raising funds for the NYCLU and ACLU missions, which is to promote and protect civil rights and liberties.
Belafonte accepted the award via phone and the audience heard his impassioned speech on never giving up on fighting for civil rights. A very great night that really shows what America is trying to be, despite Donald Trump being president and making bonehead decisions.
