From winning the CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund for best men’s wear designers, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow of Public School surprised the crowd when introducing a women’s wear line to their collection in this upcoming Fall/Winter 2014 Menswear New York Fashion Show on February 9th, 2014. “We have the boy, the girl version of themselves. It’s not their girlfriend, it’s the person they hang out with all the time and grab a drink with” states Maxwell Osborne. Dao –Yi Chow explains that, “The shapes are similar to men’s. When you think of those feminine silhouettes, that’s something we didn’t want to show. You’ll see a sexy tomboy vibe.” Both designers explaining their 2014 collection and what inspired them to create such a line of their signature street referenced silhouettes but with a twist of incorporating a more structured tailored looked with modern three-piece suits in all over tweed and a bonded navy wool look with an elongated vest with matching pants. Public School seems to be moving into the big leagues, coming from a recognized fashion designer Prabal Gurung, “They’re very true to their roots. Without being very pretentious, they’re just very honest about it and I think there is a place for them. There’s a place for authentic honest voice, because a lot of high fashion designers say they’re inspired by street, but they started by street. When you look at them, what you see on the runway it’s believable because that’s how they wear their clothes. It’s the coolest show.” Keep a look out on these two men.
