Rihanna Honored at Black Girls Rock 2016

Global pop icon and eight time Grammy Award-winning artist Rihanna is the newest addition to the list of the Black Girls Rock honorees.

During Friday’s sixth annual ceremony at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, which celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Black Girls Rock global women’s empowerment movement and its nonprofit mentoring organization, bad girl took a short break from her “Anti World Tour” to receive the aptly titled “Rock Star” award for her trailblazing contributions to the worlds of entertainment, fashion and music.

The Black Girls Rock 2016 lineup celebrated women from all over the world who shine bright like diamonds for their philanthropic work, their efforts on and off the stage impacting the communities that surround them and more. Legends such as Gladys Knight (who was also honored at the ceremony), Dionne Warwick, Cicely Tyson also graced the red carpet, but of course it was Rihanna who shut things down sauntering onto the red carpet at the event.

Without giving too much away before you see the big show, expect to see some really exciting young women doing amazing things in their respective fields. So about those performances? Well, Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan and even the show’s returning hostess Tracee Ellis Ross rendered incredible numbers you won’t want to miss.

Catch Rihanna and the other black girls who rock in action tomorrow April 5th when the show airs at 8PM on BET. For more information, click on the image or visit BET.com.
