“The country is overrun by crime, the people need a hero, ROBOCOP! He died in the war against crime and was reborn to win it”, the trailer of the July 17th, 1987 film states starring Peter Weller as RoboCop, Nancy Allen and Dan O’Herlihy. Who knew that 27 years later, a movie that everybody favored would be remade and revamped to feature a 2028 feel and a much more modern day approach to RoboCop. As this late RoboCop trailer went into play, the story line behind this old feature film and the story line behind the new RoboCop coming out February 12th 2014, are similar and different in more ways then one. Unlike the sequels made in 1990 and 1993, this new film is a reboot of the original. In the new film, Joel Kinnaman plays RoboCop along side his co-stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Samuel Jackson. While both story lines go into action when the main character who is a cop gets injured in the line of duty, this is their opportunity to use their technology to turn this man into part-man, part-robot police officer to fight justice. According to EPK.TV, “Alex Murphy is a hard working Detroit cop, just trying to do what he can to stem the tide of crime that is slowly taking over the city.” With a much more futuristic look into the 20th century then in 1987, this film will bring more of a in-depth story line, putting a man inside a machine with a broader range of action packed battles for the future of American justice.
