Oklahoma City Thunder Star Russell Westbrook historic month in February elevates him in the MVP conversation without Kevin Durant.
This season Westbrook is averaging 27.4 points, 8.1 assists and 7 rebounds. He’s third in steals at two per game and his player efficiency rating is 30, second to Anthony Davis at 31.67. Last year’s MVP Durant posted a 29.67 to win it compared to Westbrook and Davis.
Westbrook is willing the Thunder in the western conference and are currently the 8th seed with just 20 games left in the season. He posted four triple doubles in four straight games since Michael Jordan did it back in 1989.
It was snapped against the Chicago Bulls, but scored 43 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the loss. Although based on his stats it looks as if he should be the MVP, candidates such as James Harden, Stephen Curry and even Lebron James are having outstanding seasons. There teams are much higher in the standings then the Thunder.
The Thunder overall is having an up and down season. Durant missed an enormous amount of games along with Westbrook. If the Thunder were healthy in the beginning of the season, then they probably be a higher seed.
Westbrook importance to the Thunder is keeping them alive in the NBA playoffs. If he keeps up this explosive play every game and elevates the team’s seed, there is no argument of him winning the MVP by the end of the season.
