Another DC movie making money in the box office for the summer, which does give them hope on the future. But even with “Suicide Squad” making $137 million during its opening weekend, critics still ripped it.
This is probably the worst year for DC films. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” lay an egg due to a disorganized plot and Superman being as boring as any superhero can be. Despite it making more than $800 million, still not enough to approve the critics. For “Suicide Squad” trying get away from these mistakes, it falls right into the same category.
The movie itself had potential to be good, making a major step for DC. The characters were in place and Jared Leto as Joker was something everyone patiently waited to see. But it was a letdown due to his limited time on screen. Yes characters like him, Margot Robbie and Will Smith played their characters well, it still doesn’t justify the importance of pace and plot for the film.
Critics are constantly bashing DC not because most of them are bias and Marvel fans, but because poor directing along with terrible setup has failed them, miserably. How are they going to compete against Marvel? they can’t unless films are produced patiently with an excellent story and directors who know they are doing. At least have somewhat tell them that these decisions for the film won’t work.
Still the only hope for DC is if Wonder Woman becomes a smash hit, and Ben Affleck makes a great solo Batman movie. Otherwise, these movies will be remembered as disappointments rather than building up for future films.
