At last night’s Republican National Convention event, Ted Cruz spoke passionately of an America that embodies “true Republican values.” From a writer’s perspective, it was an engaging and thoughtful speech, but what the audience really wanted to hear was an endorsement of Trump- which Cruz did not do. Not even a “Vote for Trump!” statement, mostly just a vote for their “conscience.” And while yes, the audience at the RNC is very gung-ho about Republican party values, they also feel the same about Trump and immediately began booing the Texas senator the instant they realized he was not about to endorse Trump.
Senator Cruz has made a risky bet on the rest of his political career, yet he simply won’t be bothered by it, saying “I am not in the habit of supporting someone who attacks my wife and attacks my father.” He has even said that he had spoken to Trump 3-4 days ago and explicitly told him that there would be no endorsement, which seems to be evident when Trump took to Twitter after the speech, saying, “No big deal!” Senator Cruz proves once again that he is anti-establishment and sticks to his morals, even if the cost is inciting absolute chaos at the end of his speech- one delegate had to be restrained from physically attacking him.
Tonight is the last night of the Republican National Convention and honestly, anything goes. Stay tuned for more.
