The New York Yankees are heading into spring training without Derek Jeter, the return of Alex Rodriguez and questions concerning the health of the team as a whole.
This will be the first time since 1996 that Jeter is not part of the team. But the return of Alex Rodriguez is very interesting due to his suspension. The 39-year old third baseman is heading into the season with questions on how well he will produce for the team. ESPN reported Rodriguez apologizing to the Yankees on doing performance enhancing drugs.
Despite the circus that Rodriguez brought to the Yankees, he can still be a solid contributor to the team’s success. The team’s next concern is the players they added from the offseason.
They loss a number of pitchers such as David Robertson and Hiroki Kuroda. They provide solid outings last season despite the injury bug on the pitching staff. The addition of David Carpenter and closer Andrew Miller can slightly improve the solid work that Manager Joe Girardi did last season. These additions along with the health of C.C. Sabathia, Ivan Nova and Masahiro Tanaka can strengthened their rotation and become a threat in the American League.
The offense of the Yanks will have to depend on Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira. They need to bounce back from last season and not only produce more, but staying healthy in the lineup. They can be more balanced and produce more runs and home runs if they play up to their potential.
Health is the major issue heading into spring training and only Girardi can figure the lineups and rotations as the games go by, The Yankees will play their first spring training game on Mar. 3rd against the Phillies in Clearwater.
