The New York Yankees continue to control their destiny and secure a win over the Baltimore Orioles 4-3. Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeria each homered in the game.
After the all-star break the Yankees found themselves healthy and ready to go for the second half. They won against the Orioles on Monday 2-1 and now won again. The pitching was solid and the bullpen did it’s job. It’s these type of wins that good teams do and gives them a chance to win playoff games. The offense for the Yankees has been consistent throughout the season and most of it is from hitters like Rodriguez, Teixeria and Brett Gardner.
Rodriguez’s 20th home run was the longest hit in Yankee stadium this season. He never hit his 20th home run since 2010 and manager Joe Girardi is impress with Rodriguez.
“I thought he had a chance to be productive,” said Girardi according to ESPN New York. “But what he’s done this year is obviously more than I expected just because of the time off, the hip surgeries, and it’s been really important to our club.”
The Yankees as a team have 124 home runs which is second in the MLB. Even if they struggle at times and can’t seem to score in tight situations, one swing can change the feel of the game even in aging players and runners on the bases.
“That’s kind of how it feels right now,” said Girardi. “You feel if you’re struggling to score runs early, you get a couple of guys on and someone’s going to pop one.”
