Minnesota Timberwolves Zach LaVine won the MVP trophy in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge. He scored 30 points with seven rebounds as Team USA beat the World team 157-154.
A great night for the rookies and sophomores during All Star weekend. LaVine stole the show, but others played well. The hometown kid Andrew Wiggins, who won it last year scored 29 points. Fans in Toronto nickname him “Maple Jordan” for his athleticism and highlight plays. They hope one day he plays for the Toronto Raptors in the future.
“It felt great,” Wiggins said according to ESPN. “I got to play in front of a lot of people I haven’t seen in a long time. My family, friends got to watch it. It was great being back home and playing in front of my hometown.”
Wiggins stated he loves playing in Minnesota with the young stars. He knows how talented LaVine and Karl-AnthonyTowns are with him being part of the promising young core.
On the world team, Knicks Kristaps Porzingis and Nuggets Emmanuel Mudiay each scored 30 points. Lakers Jordan Clarkson for USA had 25. A lot of promising stars showcased their talent. Hopefully they can do the same for their franchises.
