Coming fresh off the release of his first solo album, Zayn Malik has decided to take his creative talent into the world of fashion, offering a 23 piece collection of t-shirts, tank tops, and hoodies all inspired by his South Asian heritage.
The designs of the collection include everything from t-shirts printed with the pop stars’ face to hoodies covered with Urdu script – a nod to his South Asian roots. Zayn told Vogue.com, “My family is from Pakistan, so having artwork in Urdu has huge significance to me.”. For the t-shirts that have graphic design prints, Zayn says that he took inspiration from the rock bands of the 70s and 80s. He also worked with Mark Wilkinson, the illustrator of Iron Maiden, on the designs.
Even though Zayn collaborated on some pieces, he is adamant that the collection is a reflection of his own personal style.”I wanted to approach this as an opportunity to extend my ideas as an artist, and to give fans another facet of who I am,” he explained.
